Making Connections extended for Swindon creatives

Following an initial run of monthly creative workshops, we have been able to extend our popular Making Connections series at Swindon Dance. This is thanks to the amazing enthusiasm and feedback of everyone who’s taken part so far, along with the continued support of our project partners.
The sessions, which aim to plug a gap in professional development opportunities for artists in the South West, have proved a vital networking opportunity and creative outlet for local artists of a variety of disciplines, with one participant commenting:
“Such fabulous inclusive sessions. Full of creativity, support and a space to experiment and grow. I haven't experienced anything like it.”
With monthly events now confirmed until the end of June 2025, each workshop will consist of a creative movement-based activity, led by an expert guest artist, followed by networking opportunities, which are facilitated by Neon’s Artistic Director Adrienne Hart and local artist Sarah Ferris.
The new roster of guest workshop leaders offers something for everyone, with dance maker Laïla Diallo, somatic therapist Vicki Plomer and the well-regarded choreographer Theo Clinkard all contributing.
Our co-host, artist Sarah Ferris, commented:
“The opportunity to join in the Making Connections sessions has been incredibly nourishing. I really value having the opportunity to move and improvise with other creatives and be led by incredible facilitators. It feels like it’s a safe space, to come as you are. I so enjoy seeing the community, local and regional dancers and creatives from other art forms enjoy the space together.
It is exciting to see a growing number of new people attend, as well as how many people are returning session after session. A number of people have commented on how welcoming the space feels and it has been lovely to hear our visiting teachers say how warm and open participants have been to work with.”
For those who attended previous Making Connections events, we’d like to flag that the next block of events are now taking place on the fourth Thursday of each month, rather than a Friday, due to the venue’s availability. We’ll be closely monitoring participant preferences and will attempt to secure the most convenient times for future sessions - we know this can make all the difference.
