Our Story

— The Scotsman

“Free and uplifting, evocative and genuinely moving.”

— The Stage

“…a unique and wondrous world.”

Adrienne Hart graduated from London Contemporary Dance School in 2002 and founded Neon Dance in 2004. Based in Swindon, Neon Dance creates work for the stage, screen and spaces in between. Over the past 20 years we have contributed to the British contemporary arts scene whilst presenting work internationally in Japan, Norway, Netherlands, Belgium, Kosovo and Germany.

Adrienne Hart has created numerous works for Neon Dance since founding the company, including ‘Falling From Trees’ (2010), ‘The Intention’ (2012), ‘Empathy’ (2016), ‘Puzzle Creature' (2018), ‘Mahajanaka’ (2019) and ‘Prehension Blooms’ (2022). She has curated sold out evenings of cross disciplinary work at Sadler’s Wells and Modern Art Oxford; directed dance film and interactive digital works including ‘Stages’ (2013) and ‘Archived’it’ (2011) and collaborated with countless outstanding artists and award winning collectives including Nils Frahm, Ana Rajcevic, and Numen / For Use.

The company has been commissioned and supported over the years by Arts Council England, British Council, Creative England, Sadler’s Wells, The Place, Modern Art Oxford, Glastonbury Festival, Reversible Destiny Foundation, The Great Britain Sasakawa Foundation, The Saison Foundation, South West Creative Technology Network, Pavilion Dance South West and Art Front Gallery amongst others.

Company highlights include curating a Wild Card at Lilian Baylis Studio and creating work with over 60’s performance group Company of Elders, both commissioned by Sadler’s Wells; being invited onto the Studio Wayne McGregor Questlab, an artist development initiative supporting artists passionate about technology’s potential to augment artistic creativity and engagement within the arts; being commissioned by The Place and Wellcome Collection to research dance and robotics with Bristol Robotics Lab; and presenting work in Japan as part of Echigo-Tsumari Art Triennial and Setouchi Art Triennale.

Neon Dance became a charity in 2021. Neon’s charitable objectives are to advance and promote participation in and appreciation of performance art, especially in the form of dance but not exclusively; and to provide education and training in performing art, especially dance and associated disciplines.

Artistically led by British choreographer Adrienne Hart, Neon Dance has gained a reputation for producing unique encounters and stand out performances; encouraging new audiences to dance.
